Privacy policy for the Discrity app

Last updated: 8 October 2026

In short

Discrity keeps what it records on your Mac. It has no account and contains no analytics, tracking or advertising. It goes online for two things only: checking your license key, and looking for a new version when you ask.

Who is responsible

Discrity is published by Scaled Academy GmbH, of which OJ Studio is a part. The address and contact details are in the imprint. This policy covers the Discrity app for Mac. The website has its own privacy policy.

What the app stores on your Mac

Use of the camera and microphone: which app used them, when, for how long, whether Discrity showed a warning, and whether you stopped the app. If you switch on speaker monitoring in Settings, the same is stored for the speaker.

Connections: the network addresses and ports an app was connected to while it used the camera or microphone, and when Discrity first saw each one. Discrity does not look at what was sent.

Away watch reports: the times at which the keyboard, mouse or trackpad was used, the lid was opened, closed or moved, the power cable was connected or removed, or a device was plugged in. Discrity notes that a key was pressed, never which key.

Your choices: the apps you trust, the apps you always want a warning for, and your settings. Your license key, if you have one, is stored there too.

All of this is kept in your user account on your Mac and nowhere else.

What the app never records

Discrity never records sound, video, pictures, your screen, or what you type. It notes that a device was used, not what the device captured.

How long it is kept

The history is deleted automatically after the time you choose in Settings: 30 days, 90 days or one year. The default is 90 days.

You can delete the whole history, including all Away watch reports, at any time with “Delete all history” in Settings. Removing the app and its data from your Mac removes everything.

What the app reads from macOS

To do its job, Discrity reads which apps are using the camera, microphone and speaker, the entries macOS writes when its own privacy indicator changes, the list of open network connections of an app that is using the camera or microphone, and the state of the lid and the power supply. It only reads this information. Nothing is sent anywhere.

The two times the app goes online

License key: when you activate a key, the app sends the key and the word “Mac” to Lemon Squeezy, the reseller that sold it, to learn whether the key is valid and still free. The same happens when you remove the key from a Mac. While a key is in use, the app also asks once a day, by itself, whether the key is still valid, and sends the key for that. Nothing about your Mac, your history or you is sent. Without a key, in the free trial or after it, the app contacts nobody by itself.

Withdrawing a purchase: if you take back your purchase in the app, the app sends your license key to this website, which passes it to Lemon Squeezy to refund the order and switch the key off. We keep no record of it beyond the server's normal log.

Updates: when you press “Check for updates”, the app fetches a small file from this website that names the newest version. Discrity never looks for updates by itself.

As with every connection on the internet, the service that is contacted sees your IP address. For this website, see its privacy policy.

Sending feedback

The button “Send feedback” in the app's Settings opens a form on our website in your browser. The app itself sends nothing. The link it opens carries the app's version and build number, so that we know which version a message is about; it carries nothing else. Nothing is transmitted until you send the form. What happens to the form is described in the privacy policy of the website.

Buying a license

Licenses are sold by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the seller. The purchase takes place on their pages, and they process your payment and contact details under their own privacy policy.

From them we receive the details of your order, such as your name and email address, to help you with your license and to meet our legal record-keeping duties (Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR).

Your rights

What the app records never leaves your Mac, so we hold none of it that we could disclose, correct or delete. It is on your Mac and under your control.

If you contact us by email, the website's privacy policy describes how we handle your message. Your rights under the GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, are unaffected. For any question, please use the contact details in the imprint.

Changes

If a later version of Discrity handles data differently, we will update this policy before that version is released.
